Onalaska, Wisconsin

Onalaska, WI

As one of Wisconsin's most scenic towns, Onalaska is a beautiful environment for residents and tourists. Built just above the Black River, the bluffs offer a picturesque vantage point looking out over Lake Onalaska and the neighboring state of Minnesota. The local parks offer trails and bike paths for visitors to spend the day sightseeing without the background noise of a bustling city.

Known as the "The Sunfish Capital of the World," the parks of Onalaska also offer the perfect opportunity for local fishing enthusiasts to take home a big catch. The Great River Landing provides shore fishing areas and, if you're looking for a break from your rod and reel, regular events like the annual Three Rivers Roleo log rolling championship. Sunny the Sunfish, the official "fish ambassador" of the town, is a famous local monument that sits 15 feet tall and 25 feet long and can be found just north of downtown along the Great River Road.

If you're looking for activities away from the water, Coulee Golf Bowl has been providing entertainment since the course was crafted by Richard Mulder & Art Bronson in the 1960s. This locally owned establishment has a golf course that spans over 3,000 yards and newly renovated bowling lanes. While they regularly host tournaments, the club also offers space to host events, parties, and leagues. Coulee Golf Bowl is dedicated to bringing people together with good food, fun, and friendly competition, whether you're hoping to join a local bowling league or find a new crew to work on your par.

Stop at Nutbush City Limits Bar & Restaurant as you wrap up the day. While locally sourced fish and draft beers are some of the menu's highlights, they also provide some of the best burgers and pizzas in town. You'll be hard-pressed to find an empty seat during sporting events - Packers games always bring a packed house. When you get the opportunity to squeeze in, Greg's famous charcoal chicken is the real attraction that brings together the community.

Onalaska is no stranger to community events and getting neighbors off their front porches. The town's Omni Center is a multi-purpose venue with a constant rotation of events and activities for all ages. In addition to trade shows, conferences, and receptions, local organizations can also schedule their important occasions inside the convention center or sports arena. The building also has two ice rinks for hockey games, private lessons, and public skating.

While Onalaska is a beautiful place to call home, it's no stranger to unwanted guests. The bluffs are home to rodents, bats, moles, and unique upper Mississippi River critters like Japanese beetles and black-legged deer ticks. If unwelcome insects and rodents are bugging you, it's time to call in the experts.
