Termite Exterminator

Even though termites are more prevalent in more southern regions of the United States, they still rank as the most destructive insect to wooden building materials in Wisconsin. The species we encounter that causes the most property damage in our area is the Eastern Subterranean. Subterranean termites get their name because they form their colonies underground, preferably in soft and moist soil near food. They feed on cellulose, mainly found in natural wood, processed wooden construction materials, and paper products.

Termites tunnel continuously in search of new food sources, and that's not an exaggeration; they never sleep.  When winter subsides, and warm weather comes, they swarm by flying around near their colony to mate and look for suitable places to form new colonies.

Besides, during the swarming season, they spend nearly all their time underground, looking for roots, stumps of trees, and fallen logs to feed on. However, they move above ground for short distances when necessary to reach new food sources, such as the wood and paper found in and near buildings. A single acre of suitable land can support several colonies, and they are known to forage underground hundreds of feet in search of above-ground wooden structures.

There are some signs you can look for around your home or business that could indicate the presence of termites. They leave mud tubes or mounded topsoil in areas where they burrow. In moist soil, the tunnels they dig push the soil up in cylindrical tube shapes along the surface. Mounded dirt around baseboards, windowsills, or walls is sometimes evidence of displaced soil that results from tunneling.

The wood inside buildings that looks warped or water-stained, feels soft or sounds hollow when tapped, is likely holding moisture that makes it more susceptible to an infestation or already has been infested. Structures that show evidence of termite infestation should be inspected immediately by pest control professionals. We can provide a thorough inspection and comprehensive plan for eliminating the infestation and remediating the damage. We also offer treatments and help develop exclusion plans to prevent future infestation.

Prevention methods we use include soil and wood treatments as well as baiting and monitoring systems. Some treatment and bait systems use chemicals to restrict growth with environmentally friendly materials. Monitoring systems provide objective feedback during future inspections of feeding or activity in protected areas. Eliminating excess moisture and standing water in the soil surrounding buildings and ensuring no wood contacts soil are also design modifications to prevent future infestation.
